Spring Cleaning: There's too many of them... There's too little of me... Get out!

Every Spring I put the brakes on adding a bunch of new movies to my Watchlist and try to catch-up on a few of the titles that have been lingering in its cavernous nooks for ages. This April I also wanted to correct course after spending a few months slogging through relatively mediocre movie selections, and my engineering of the lottery reaped the needed rewards: the 14 movies I watched during April averaged out to 71% as I ranked them on my Flickchart, with a couple of new strong favorites emerging from the pack, and not a single one of the 14 movies earning lower than a 5/10 rating.

Here's how April's movies ranked for me:

  • Touch of Evil (1958)
    Dir.: Orson Welles
    My rank: #129 (96%)
  • Apu Trilogy: Pather Panchali (1955)
    Dir.: Satyajit Ray
    My rank: #216 (94%)
  • Late Spring (1949)
    Dir.: Yasujiro Ozu
    My rank: #350 (90%)
  • The Seventh Seal (1957)
    Dir.: Ingmar Bergman
    My rank: #510 (85%)
  • All About Eve (1950)
    Dir.: Joseph L. Mankiewicz
    My rank: #692 (80%)
  • Apu Trilogy: Apur Sansar (1959)
    Dir.: Satyajit Ray
    My rank: #828 (76%)
  • Apu Trilogy: Aparajito (1956)
    Dir.: Satyajit Ray
    My rank: #923 (73%)
  • Freaks of Nature (2015)
    Dir.: Robbie Pickering
    My rank: #964 (72%)
  • Human Nature (2001)
    Dir.: Michel Gondry
    My rank: #1047 (70%)
  • I Stand Alone (1998)
    Dir.: Gaspar Noé
    My rank: #1380 (60%)
  • Swing Time (1936)
    Dir.: George Stevens
    My rank: #1504 (56%)
  • Men Don't Leave (1990)
    Dir.: Paul Brickman
    My rank: #1588 (54%)
  • Yi Yi (2000)
    Dir.: Edward Yang
    My rank: #1784 (48%)
  • The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai... (1984)
    Dir.: W.D. Richter
    My rank: #1816 (47%)

(I cheated a bit on my last batch of reviews, as a flu hit me during the final week.)

April's selections were chosen from a pool of 60 movies, combining:

Twelve movies were picked at random from the resulting lot.
