I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!

Exceptional historical drama makes a good companion for Scorsese's Silence. Not just great acting, but real substance in Robert Bolt's adaptation of his own play. Director Fred Zinnemann is a little stuffy in his presentation, but that matters less and less as it nears its stirring finale. Paul Scofield, Robert Shaw, Wendy Hiller, Leo McKern, Orson Welles, Susannah York, Nigel Davenport, John Hurt, Corin Redgrave and Vanessa Redgrave make up a flawless cast.

A Man for All Seasons was brought to my Potluck Film Fest by Andrew Kendall, who can be found on Flickchart under the username mistwhisper117. He ranks it on his Flickchart at #300 (73%, out of 1091 movies) where it's his 8th favorite historical film out of 20 and his 12th favorite Academy Award winner for Best Picture out of 28. On my chart, A Man for All Seasons ranked at #419 (89%), which puts it at #15 out of 63 historical films and #30 out of the 68 Best Picture Oscar-winners that I've seen.
